The Happy Lands
Theatre Workshop Scotland
The Happy Lands - be part of THEIR/OUR/YOUR/FILM history!
What we’re looking for?
Miners; Ex-Miners; Union Members; Film Buffs; Arts Zealots; Communities; Countries; Cadres – and anyone in between – to club together and help make sure the film The Happy Lands goes down in history. By capturing the tales of the mining communities of Fife before they slip away we’re immortalising the stories!
All we ask is for a small donation – anything from £2 could make all the difference and who knows who might follow in your footsteps?
Feel free to forward our link to your friends using the share option below and help us wave the Fife flag! This time we really are all in it together!
Please note: TWS is an educational charity and the film is a not-for-profit venture, made on a comparatively low budget.
What’s it about?
The General Strike and hot summer of 1926 created a moment of profound optimism and freedom, days and night of theatre and music mixed with revolutionary debate and direct action. Extreme hardship characterised the experience of miners and their families, but their lives were also shaped by social organisation, solidarity, compassion and humour.
What will this project do?
The aim of this project is to create a film of exceptional quality that casts current day inhabitants of the Fife ex-coalfield community in their own history.
Filming is due to take place from the 9th July to the 19th August this year. The Happy Lands has the support of Creative Scotland and will be shown by the BBC on completion, Commissioning Editor Ewan Angus is committed to the project, writing that the film “..has the potential to be an important piece of work and I’m particularly attracted by your plans to fully engage with and involve local communities in Fife in telling this story from Scotland’s past”.
We appreciate all your help and aim to make film that will never be forgotten!
